Flagstar Bank
Tuesday, June 4, 2019
In December 2018, Flagstar Bank acquired the Iron Mountain branch of Wells Fargo Bank. And while Flagstar is new to the community, the branch is not, having operated as Wells Fargo for 19 years, and before that, as MFC First National Bank. Flagstar is headquartered in Southeast Michigan and has been in business for more than 30 years. It has a branch network of 160 branches in Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio, and California. It is a full-service bank that prides itself on crafting customized solutions for customers.
Flagstar has a long tradition of investing in its communities and brought that tradition to Iron Mountain. Peggy Beckerson, manager of the Iron Mountain branch, said her office has been highly involved in the community since the transition to Flagstar. “From a can drive for the Hermansville Food Pantries, to the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Christmas program, to support for the Almost Home Animal Shelter and sprucing up highway US-2, we’ve been out in the community representing Flagstar,” said Peggy Beckerson, manager of Flagstar’s branch in Iron Mountain.
“And like the other branches new to the Flagstar family, we participated in the recent “Flagstar Crafts Community” program, which asked the community select a nonprofit nominated by a local branch to receive a $5,000 grant from the Flagstar Foundation. The winning charity for our branch was Habitat for Humanity of Menominee River, and it was really special to be able to make that check presentation. We feel fortunate to be part of a bank that places such a high value on community,” she said.

Norway Sleep Center
Wednesday, May 22, 2019
Dr. Smoot has always attempted to provide the best medical care to all patients at the lowest cost possible. He does not believe this is possible within a healthcare system. This is why Dr. Smoot has reopened his practice with himself as the only employee.
He will be able to take the patient history, perform a limited physical exam, and discuss the issues which are found. He is board certified in Sleep Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Internal Medicine. He has been certified in Medical Hypnosis which he uses for help with sleep disorders.
He will be able to dispense all supplies and tests for sleep medicine patients. Home sleep testing is done with Cleveland Med Home Sleep Testing Units for overnight studies. Very rarely would an in-center sleep study be needed. He will conduct CPAP downloads on all patients who are currently using equipment and make adjustments as needed.
He will keep costs down for all patients by charging low fees for office visits and equipment (both new and replacement). All charges are paid by cash, check or credit/HAS/FSA Cards. Receipts are given so that records can be kept for HAS, applied to deductibles, or filed for reimbursement.
Usual office hours are Monday, but patients can be seen most all times and days on request.

Tuesday, August 7, 2018
Timber Products of Iron Mountain had a ribbon cutting Tuesday, August 7th to introduce new owners Adam and Sarah Buchcuski.
Located at 611 Industrial Drive, Timber Products was founded in 1991 and handles a variety of local and over-the-road markets. Timber Products offers 25 trucks and more than 100 dry van, open top and flatbed trailers for freight hauling.
“We are blessed with a wonderful crew of drivers, mechanics and dispatchers that allow us to ensure your product is always delivered safely and on time. We look forward to servicing this community for many years to come,” new owner Adam Buchcuski said.
Buchcuski said he got involved in Timber Products when the previous owner, his stepmother, Candy Buchcuski, wanted to retire. He was looking to make a change as well from working at American Axle & Manufacturing in Kingsford when his father suggested he consider taking over the business.
It took about a year to work out all the details, Adam Buchcuski said.
“I like it. I really enjoy it so far,” he said. “The learning curve has been quick, but I think it’s been fairly seamless.”
He credits much of that successful transition to having experienced staff still with the business, such as Office Manager Stacey Lantagne, Candy Buchcuski’s daughter.

We celebrated Erickson Jewelers’ Grand Opening of their new location with a ribbon cutting.
Erickson Jewelers began in Iron Mountain in 2009 with a vision of one day finding a home downtown. Randy and Sherri Erickson are excited to finally make that dream a reality. Their recently renovated building was, at one time, a well-known local jewelry store, Frankini Jewelers. “We are honored to be able to make this a jewelry store again,” noted Randy Erickson. To honor the Frankini family, a history wall of the building has been started. The Erickson’s are hoping to add to this wall through the years with the help of local residents.
Erickson Jewelers specializes in Diamonds and Custom Design, but they have something for everyone. Randy and Sherri have been designing jewelry together for over 20 years. They share creativeness and a genuine desire to help people redesign treasures or create a meaningful piece of jewelry to cherish for a lifetime. Traveling to Antwerp every year allows them to hand select diamonds for customers and stay connected to the diamond industry.

Galaxy Detailing was established in 2014 and is located at 212 Woodward Avenue in Iron Mountain. Owned and operated by Troy LeFave, Galaxy specializes in exterior services such as hand wash and wax, exterior vinyl and rubber dressing, chrome polishing, and wheel well cleaning. Interior services include hand washed surfaces and windows, vacuum and light stain removal, shampooing carpets, clean vinyl and leather seats, and dress interior vinyl or leather. We also provide services for watercraft such as hand washing interior and exterior, buff and wax exterior, and vacuum carpets. If you have a camper or RV that needs detailing, we can provide hand washed surfaces and windows, vacuuming and light stain removal, shampoo carpeting and upholstery and hand washing and waxing exterior.
Galaxy Detailing has been an opportunity for me to use my talents in cleaning and restoring beauty to vehicles, watercraft and campers. I enjoy what I do and it gives me a sense of pride to see owners happy with the outcome I provide. I am looking forward to watching my business grow so I can service more people in the community.

The owner of What’s UP Apparel started the business in October 2016. Lynn moved to the area in 2001 after 9/11. She found “Yoopers” to be fun, humorous, loving and hard-working.
Lynn was born and raised in New Jersey. There, she worked as a purchasing manager for Technetics Corp./Brunswick Corp. When she moved to the Iron Mountain area she worked for Issues and Answers, part time, for 10 years.
Now retired, Lynn continues to volunteer for the Friends of the Braumart and became a board member in 2015. Lynn also volunteers for DDA events such as Italian Fest, Out to Lunch, and Oktoberfest. She is also a member of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women’s Club (GFWC).
Lynn is also a regular attendee at many Chamber of Commerce events including our Business After Hours and Roundtable Luncheon.
What’s UP Apparel can be created with any “UP” phrase you have in mind. Contact her today at 906-221-4894.
